Reflexology can help to relieve anxiety and tension, improve mood and aid sleep. Some people use it to help them cope with more specific health challenges. It is often used alongside conventional medical care.
The aim of a treatment is to help restore balance to the body naturally, and improve general well-being.
To the reflexologist, the feet (or hands) act as a map of the whole body. Stimulating 'reflex' points on the feet influences the corresponding parts of the body.
Reflexology can help release energy blockages, induce a relaxed state and accelarate the bodies natural ability to heal.
After a consultation you’ll be invited to relax on a reclining chair or massage table with extra cushions or blankets if needed. After gently cleansing your feet, a natural balm will be applied to start a relaxing massage to both feet preparing them for the rest of the treatment. I usually wrap a cloth around the right foot to keep it warm whilst starting working on the left.
A variety of different reflexology techniques will be used to ‘work’ the reflex points on each foot, including a caterpillar-like movement called ‘thumb walking’. The areas treated and pressure applied will be adapted to suit your individual needs.
Treatments generally last for 45 minutes to an hour. Please allow an extra 30 minutes for your initial consulatation. The amount and frequency of treatments required depends on the needs of the individual and your response to the treatment.
